The Board of Directors consists of appointees who have been carefully selected based on their

experience, medical specialty, and diversity. The Board meets monthly to review important issues and guide HAVEN’s growth and sustainability.

The Oversight Committee

The Oversight Committee consists of three members selected by the Department of Public Health, one member selected the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services and three members selected by HAVEN. All members must have experience in mental health and/or substance use disorders. The Oversight Committee is an essential element of the enabling statute and meets four times per year.

The Medical Review Committee

 

The Medical Review Committees are multidisciplinary bodies reflecting the multiple professions HAVEN serves. The second Wednesday evening of each month a medical review committee convenes to determine eligibility, terms and conditions for participation, status, compliance, and fitness to practice. The committee members will review readiness to assume responsibilities of narcotic access within scope of practice duties, grant approval for HAVEN to support reinstatement of DCP/DEA privileges, or revise contract terms. The Medical Review Committee may also find after careful review that HAVEN’s services are not required.

Reports and other records are deidentified, so committee members cannot identify the individuals seeking HAVEN’s support. The terms and conditions determined by the medical review committee become the health accountability contract entered into between the participant and HAVEN. If a professional disagrees with the Medical Review Committee determination, the professional may request that the Medical Review Committee reconsider. The professional may request review by the Oversight Committee. The Oversight Committee cannot override a Medical Review Committee decision, but the Medical Review Committee may reconsider a determination at the suggestion of the Oversight Committee. The professional may also elect to explore his or her option to work directly with the Department.

If there is a past or pending disciplinary action, felony conviction, or allegation of patient harm, the Medical Review Committee makes recommendations to the Department of Public Health and the Department will determine whether the professional is eligible to work with HAVEN.

HAVEN Staff

 

Katherine Grieco, DO | Medical Director

 

Katherine Grieco, D.O. serves as our Medical Director. She is Board Certified in Family and Addiction Medicine. Dr. Grieco joined HAVEN in 2018. She conducts interventions, oversee support services, and follows ongoing compliance with wellness programs for HAVEN participants. She is a graduate of the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed an HIV primary care fellowship at the University of California San Francisco, followed by an addiction medicine fellowship at Yale School of Medicine. Prior to her role at HAVEN, she worked in direct clinical care as the medical director of a methadone maintenance treatment program and inpatient detox center in New Haven, as well as director of an in-hospital detox unit in Boston. She has an Undergraduate Degree from Wittenberg University.

Maureen Dinnan, JD | Chief Executive Officer

 

Maureen Sullivan Dinnan, J.D. serves as the Executive Vice President and Chief Executive Officer.  Maureen is a healthcare law attorney with extensive experience with professional health issues having represented physicians, dentists, veterinarians and hospitals before DPH and the respective Boards and Commissions. She drafted and lobbied for legislation enabling the creation of HAVEN and joined the organization in 2008. She works closely with the Board of Directors, Vice President of Operations and Vice President of Finance, to oversee operations and to guide HAVEN’s growth and sustainability. She is a high honors graduate of Smith College and received her Juris Doctor degree from University of Connecticut School of Law.

Linda Barile, PhD, RN | Associate Program Director

Linda Barile, Ph.D, R.N., serves as the Associate Program Director. Linda joined HAVEN in 2007. She conducts interventions, oversees support services, and follows ongoing compliance with wellness programs for HAVEN. She provides peer support and meets with professionals to help them develop insight necessary to maintain their recovery process and commitment to wellness. She is a graduate of the University of Connecticut with a Doctor of Philosophy degree. She also holds Master of Nursing degree from the University of California and obtained an undergraduate degree from the University of Connecticut. 

Vincent McClain, MD | Medical Review Officer

Vincent McClain, M.D. serves as HAVEN’s Medical Review Officer. Dr. McClain is a physician who has achieved the national certification required to act as Medical Review Officer. He is also certified by the American Board of Addition Medicine and the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He generously volunteers his time weekly to review urine drug screen results in order to verify positive results and prepares medical review reports for review.

Mary Coppola | Vice President of Operations

Mary Coppola serves as the Vice President of Operations. She has over thirty years of experience in business management. Mary joined HAVEN in 2014. She works closely with the Chief Executive Officer and Board of Directors to manage daily operations. She also schedules and oversees the educational presentations that occur throughout the year. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in German Education from the University of Connecticut. You can contact Mary regarding compliance letters or to schedule an educational presentation. 

Michelle Nielson | Vice President of Finance

Michelle Nielson serves as the Vice President of Finance. Michelle joined HAVEN in 2013. She works closely with the Chief Executive Officer, Vice President of Operations and the Board of Directors to manage the cash flow and expense control procedures for the organization. She also handles employee benefit administration and human resource matters. Michelle is a Cum Laude graduate of the University of Connecticut with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. 

Lauren Howard | Case Manager/Education Outreach Coordinator

Lauren Howard serves as Case Manager/Education Outreach Coordinator. Lauren joined HAVEN in 2017. She manages a caseload of participants to ensure they are maintaining compliance with their health and wellness contracts. In addition, she assists with the planning of our annual conference and other outreach activities. She is a graduate of the University of Connecticut with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences. 

Kami Parisella | Director of Case Management

Kami Parisella serves as Director of Case Management. Kami joined HAVEN in 2018. Her work focuses on case flow and contract management. She manages a caseload of participants to ensure they are maintaining compliance with their health and wellness contracts. Kami has an Associate Degree in Liberal Arts and Science and a Certificate in Human Services from Monroe Community College. She also holds a Paralegal Certificate.

Steve Sheehan, LCSW | Former Director of Case Management

Stephen Sheehan, LCSW served as Director of Case Management. He joined HAVEN in 2011. Steve managed the urine drug screening process for participants. In addition, he also oversaw and provided direction to HAVEN’s other case managers. He is a graduate of the University of Connecticut with a Master’s Degree in Social Work and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. Steve retired from HAVEN on June 27, 2019. Steve has been a devoted member of HAVEN for more than eight years. We are grateful to Steve for his years of service and support. He will be greatly missed by both colleagues and participants alike.
