Continuing Education

Educating healthcare professionals, administrators, hospitals, HMOs, insurance companies, and the public regarding prevention, early identification, and treatment of substance use disorders and other illnesses affecting healthcare professionals is central to HAVEN’s mission. Programs for burnout/stress management, prescribing practices, communication skills, as well as emotional and behavioral problems are in increasing demand.

HAVEN is available to provide educational programs that are appropriate for physician, nursing, and dentist grand rounds, medical and healthcare practices, healthcare organizations, or specialty society meetings.

  • "Professional Health: Truth and Consequences" provides information on professional health issues and the role of HAVEN in promoting health. The presentation will include discussion of identification of those at risk, ways to access care, benefits of ongoing care with monitoring, and potential consequences when health issues are not properly addressed.

  • “Mandated Reporting: What Every Healthcare Professional Needs to Know” outlines the responsibility to report healthcare professionals who may be unable to practice safely and the responsibilities to self report certain arrests as required under Connecticut General Statute Section 19a-12. This program also discusses the challenges when the professional is your patient.

  • "The Disruptive Professional: What is Your Problem?" discusses the challenges of team dynamics in delivering patient care and individual responsibility to enhance patient care and safety.

  • Individual programs may also be designed to meet your organization's needs
